Thank you!

Thank you so much to everyone who participated in, supported, and donated to Ride2CW 2012! Check out our RideStream page, following the rider, roller, & runner live updates.

We broke all fundraising expectations this year and we can’t wait to distribute the much-needed funding to GRN Travel Grant Award recipients for the GRN and C&W 2013 at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, MD.

Cheryl Ball Funding Challenge

Don’t miss this one! The “Make-Cheryl-Ride-Longer” aka “Make-Cheryl-Cry” funding challenge has been issued. See the message from Cheryl below:

I am *not* riding 84.5 miles to Durham and back. At least not unless
you all help me. Here’s how:

There are 4 loops of varying lengths that Rik Hunter so lovingly
mapped out for us. I’ve registered to ride the shortest one (21
miles). If you think I should ride more, you need to meet my
fundraising goals:

21 mile loop = $175
28 mile loop = $250
38 mile loop = $500
84.7 mile loop = $750

Under this model, you’re actually donating *less per mile* for the
longest ride compared to the second-longest. And, I’ma let you finish,
but I do not really want to ride all the way to Durham and back. The
weather’s been crap in Illinois, and I haven’t been training very
much. I’ll do it, however, if you insist. Because that’s how much I
love you all, and the GRN! Following Dickie’s lead, this week only I
will match the first $175 that folks donate.

Another Funding Challenge!

Deb Balzhiser is joining Dickie Selfe in a funding challenge – offering to match donors for up to $100 who support the GRN Travel Grant Awards by sponsoring her to do it all! She is riding 21 miles, then rolling and running/walking another 5k each. Go Deb! Sponsor this brave woman!

Dickie Selfe Funding Match Challenge!

Dickie sent out a funding challenge to potential sponsors, offering to match dollar for dollar, up to $200.  Way to go Dickie! His message is below:

For those who don’t know, a group of C&W people ride to and at the Computers and Writing Conference each year to raise money for the Graduate Research Network (GRN, What’s that?)<http://class.georgiasouthern.edu/writling/GRN/2012/index.html>. This year I’ll match every sponsor dollar up to $200. My mode of transportation is a little odd. I will be roller skiing (think inline skating with poles, link below) about 20 miles during the two days prior to the conference (May 15 and 16).

You can donate to the cause from this site: http://www.ride2cw.org/ or arrange some other kind of payment with me.

Please do let me know (individually OFF LINE) if you would like to sponsor my efforts, so I’ll know how much to match. I will be skiing on these two trails during those days and tweeting as I go if phone signals allow:

- The Huckleberry Trails<http://www.traillink.com/trail/huckleberry-trail.aspx>in Blacksburg, VA (5/15) ~13 miles

- The Salem Creek Greenway<http://www.traillink.com/trail/salem-creek-greenway.aspx>, Winston-Salem (5/16) ~7 miles

Only in my dreams, I look like this http://www.nordicskiracer.com/news.asp?NewsID=5681 ;-)

Launching Ride2CW 2012

Welcome to the third annual Ride to Computers and Writing “pledge ride” to support the Computers and Writing Graduate Research Network Travel Awards. Many riders (and one of them could be you!) will ride to and/or roll, run, walk around Computers and Writing 2012 at North Carolina State University in Raleigh, North Carolina on May 16, 2012. There are several ways that you can help to send a starving grad student to C&W 2012:

  • Become a rider! Join a route or create your own. Convince your friends to ride, too. Register here and we’ll shout it out for our fund raising efforts.
  • Share this site with your friends and beg for donations (see “The Fine Print” page for details);
  • Follow us on Twitter @ride2cw, retweet our announcements to your Twitterverse, and use #ride2cw when you talk about it;
  • Like our Facebook page – Ride2CW –  and invite others to join and donate!
  • Use RideStream* to participate and follow our riders!

*RideStream is a web-based service and mobile application developed for Ride2CW by Bill Hart-Davidson, Mike McLeod, and a fabulous team of undergraduate researchers/developers at MSU WIDE. RideStream allows riders, supporters, and others who may be interested to coordinate their participation in the event.
